When does the truth matter?

I caught a bit of conversation on NPR, Talk of the Nation a few minutes ago.

To paraphrase, “….because of the Internet, everyone in the public eye will have rumors swirling around them all the time.  We’ll have to decide what the truth is and whether the truth matters in a particular situation.”

I am reminded of Miniter’s comments: “…essentially a democratic model of the truth; majority rule within the media.  The problem is that the truth is not a popularity contest.”

It may not be truth, but “History is written by the victors” – Churchill
