The Professor and the Madman – Winchester

The story of the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) from a different point of view from Winchester’s other book, The Meaning of Everything. Here he focuses on the life and astounding contributions of one of the OED amateur contributors, Dr. William Chester Minor, a certified and locked up lunatic. A great read.

P75 cool word: sesquipedalian – of words and expressions ‘words a foot and a half long’

P139 Minor’s notepads = four sheets of white paper; he folded the paper into a quire, a booklet eight pages thick.  I was reminded of Pocketmod.
